I've actually seen (evidence) of an oriental looking guy sitting on a toilet seat with his legs in London. So after a long wait for him to come out, I had to clean the bloody mud from the seat. In some parts of the world they have different toilet systems. For instance, Google for "italian toilet". I don't know about its origins but it is spread across Asia as well.
